Tail Light Tinting....

After receiving my can of “Night Shades” for tail light tinting, NOT for window tinting, I picked up a can of Dupli-Color Clear Coat and some 320 grit wet/dry sand paper. I removed the lights (remember the wing nut incident previously) and started sanding to take the gloss off. When I felt they were ready, I wiped them down and put 3 thin coats of tint on both, trying to keep them as equal in color as possible. I let them dry for about 2 hours, then lightly sanded them with a 1000 grit screen pad. Wiped them off again and put 2 flash coats of clear, waiting 20-30 minutes in between, then 2 medium coats and watched the flow of the clear. They sat over night before I put them back on. In the pic’s you can see that they aren’t totally black, you can still see the red reflectors and the chrome housing.
Total time, 2.5 hours, then cured over night.

Eagle Eye Smoked Tail-Lights....

Now the tail-lights. I got the set of “Eagle Eye” smoked LED lights off ebay. Inside of the rear there is an open plastic grill looking thing on each side to be removed. They just pop out. Dig through the insulation and on the back of the light is a plastic wing nut that has to be removed. It takes a 12mm wrench to loosen, be very careful not to drop these like me. They go down inside the rear fender where you can’t reach, but with a little head scratching, I stuck my shop-vac hose down there and got it. The other side I stuffed a rag below it. Now on the outside edge of the hatch are 2 plastic push pins on each side that has to be removed. Remove all the light sockets and wiring from the OEM and put it on the new lights.

Now in reverse you can put the lights back on the car, just leave out the dropping the wing nut and vacuum part. This took about an hour to do. After pulling it out in the sun, I think I’ll tint them a little darker. Check back for that project.

Stillen "Black Chrome" Grill.....

OK, here it is. I removed the original horizontal aluminum slat grill and replaced it with a Stillen “Black Chrome” steel mesh grill. I looked at a lot of different ones, plastic, aluminum, mesh and honeycomb and decided with this one. I wish I would have taken pictures, but next time. The OEM grill wasn’t that bad getting out. After removing the 6 plastic “push” rivets from the top of the fascia you can get both hands in behind the grill. The OEM had 4 screws down by the Styrofoam that has to be removed. Then 2 metal clips towards the center top and the rest is pushing, squeezing and it comes up through the top.

Now the Stillen Grill is 4 pieces, so do the lower ones first so you can put your arms through the top holes. Each grill piece has 5 or 6 black clips that go over the fascia and grill, very simple, just DON’T drop them or you will be removing the complete fascia to retrieve them. It took all of 2 hours in and out of the garage. I added an “R/T” emblem, it’s from the rear trunk of a Charger.
